How You Can Help

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), which claims to represent all U.S. veterinarians, is governed by its House of Delegates, including a delegate and alternate from each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. These state delegates have the power to reverse the AVMA’s endorsements of the cruel and inhumane factory-farm practice of confining pregnant sows to gestation crates. They can also vote in favor of taking a strong stand against the production of foie gras.
Please contact your state AVMA representatives immediately to let them know that you care about farmed animals and that you hope they will speak out about these practices to the AVMA.
• E-mail Bonnie Beaver, president of the AVMA, at avmainfo@avma.org. Please read our sample letter and adapt it, using your own words.
• Contact your AVMA state representatives using our online form.

Please call, write, or visit your vet in person and ask him or her to speak out against these cruel practices to the AVMA. Please read our sample letter and adapt it, using your own words.

Please join PETA and other groups to protest the AVMA’s endorsement of cruel practices. We will be doing two demonstrations at the hotel where the majority of AVMA delegates will be staying—one on Friday as delegates register for the convention, and a second on Saturday morning, as the convention begins. We will provide posters, leaflets, and a body screen TV, so all that you have to bring is yourself (and friends)!
When: Friday, July 15, 2005, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Hilton Minneapolis, 1001 Marquette Ave.
