Would you take your cat to a veterinarian who insisted that it was healthy and normal to ram a tube down her throat and force-feed her until her liver became swollen and diseased? If your vet is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), then the answer might be “yes.”
The AVMA—which represents more than 55,000 of the almost 65,000 veterinarians in the United States—makes decisions every day that hurt animals such as pigs, ducks, and geese in ways that would be illegal if done to dogs and cats. The AVMA supports the hideously cruel factory-farming industry by allowing industry representatives to push through anti-animal endorsements for the use of gestation crates for pigs and by failing to condemn the force-feeding of birds for foie gras production, steamrolling over any objections from concerned AVMA veterinarians.
